Learning Journals

The online software, “Learning Journals”, have now replaced our paper files to track children’s development and progress throughout the nursery. Observations are linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) along with characteristics of effective learning.

ABOUT US – Staff

working with you to create the stars of the future

Little Stars is owned and run by Richard Kenyon (BA Hons) who is a qualified teacher with Early Years Professional Status. Richard specialised in Physical Education and received his training at the University of Warwick. With these qualifications and teaching experience he feels confident in being able to lead a team that can give your child the best possible opportunities at the start of their education.

At Little Stars we believe that in addition to you as parents, your child’s first educators play an equally important role in fostering an early love of learning. Our team has been carefully selected, and they all share a common quality; respect for your child’s desire to learn and a total commitment to the fulfilment of his or her needs.

Richard – Owner

Richard is a qualified teacher who taught PE locally for 12 years. He is a father to 3 daughters aged 14 and 11 year old twins. Richard has experienced most things you go through as a parent; anxieties, proud moments and of course exhaustion. Richard enjoys being active – he loves windsurfing, sailing and skiing and will often be seen zipping round on his bike in lycra! You will often see Richard in and around the nursery and at the breakfast and after school clubs and he has the important job of being the driver to weekly gym and trampolining sessions!

Cleo – Nursery Manager

Cleo started her childcare career here at Little Stars in 2011, working with the babies in Twinkles; she then left to undertake an Early Years Foundation Degree. Since then, Cleo has held various childcare roles, as well as delivering childcare training and apprenticeships for a local training provider, which provided her with a huge amount of knowledge and experience to support Practitioners in working towards being outstanding. Since her return to Little Stars in 2016, Cleo has been an integral part of the Leadership Team and now manages the Nursery and Super Stars on a day to day basis, working closely with Laura and Mary.

Mary – Finance & HR Manager

Mary has been part of the Little Stars Leadership Team for over 10 years. She liaises with parents in all areas of finance for the Nursery and Superstars, including invoicing, funding, sessions and registrations; alongside managing the Human Resources for our team of staff. Mary works four days a week during term time, and reduces her hours during school holidays as she has two young children.

Laura – Learning Leader

Laura is a qualified teacher with 15 years of experience working in schools in Bournemouth and Hampshire, and teaching in Pre-School, Reception and Year One. Laura has been a SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator) in a large primary school and was a Consultant SENCo in Bournemouth. Laura joined the leadership team at little stars in September 2018 as our Education Leader, working closely with and supporting the teams of staff, the children in our care, and their families. Laura is the SENCo and Safeguarding Lead at Little Stars and also is very much involved in the day to day management of the setting.
