Learning Journals

The online software, “Learning Journals”, have now replaced our paper files to track children’s development and progress throughout the nursery. Observations are linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) along with characteristics of effective learning.

ABOUT US – Staff

working with you to create the stars of the future

Little Stars is owned and run by Richard Kenyon (BA Hons) who is a qualified teacher with Early Years Professional Status. Richard specialised in Physical Education and received his training at the University of Warwick. With these qualifications and teaching experience he feels confident in being able to lead a team that can give your child the best possible opportunities at the start of their education.

At Little Stars we believe that in addition to you as parents, your child’s first educators play an equally important role in fostering an early love of learning. Our team has been carefully selected, and they all share a common quality; respect for your child’s desire to learn and a total commitment to the fulfilment of his or her needs.

Richard – Owner

Richard is a qualified teacher who taught PE locally for 12 years. He is a father to 3 daughters aged 14 and 11 year old twins. Richard has experienced most things you go through as a parent; anxieties, proud moments and of course exhaustion. Richard enjoys being active – he loves windsurfing, sailing and skiing and will often be seen zipping round on his bike in lycra! You will often see Richard in and around the nursery and at the breakfast and after school clubs and he has the important job of being the driver to weekly gym and trampolining sessions!

Cleo – Deputy Manager

Cleo started her childcare career here at Little Stars in 2011, having worked with the babies in Twinkles she left to undertake an Early Years Foundation Degree. Since then Cleo has held various childcare roles as well as delivering childcare training and apprenticeships for a local training provider. Cleo returned to Little Stars in 2016 to become an integral part of the Leadership Team!

Mary – Accounts and Finance Manager

Having worked previously as a full time Accounts Manager, after having had her 2 children, Mary now works at Little Stars several days a week and has been at the nursery for nearly 10 years. She liaises with parents in all areas of finance and administration for the Nursery and Superstars, including invoicing, funding, sessions, registrations along with Human resources for our team of staff. She loves living so close to the sea and enjoys walks on the beach with her family and their mischievous Poodles! Mary has a great sense of fun and is usually laughing….a pre-requisite for working at a children’s day nursery.

Laura – Learning development co-ordinator

Laura is a qualified teacher with 15 years of experience working in schools in Bournemouth and Hampshire and teaching in Pre-School, Reception and Year One. Laura has been a SENCo (Special Educatioinal Needs Co-Ordinator) in a large primary school and was a Consultant SENCo in Bournemouth. Laura loves reading, travelling and walking and also loves living by the sea. Laura is really excited to be joining the team at Little Stars and working with the lovely children and families here!
