Wow! We cannot believe February is over!

During this month we have listened to our parents feedback about their children’s interests over the Christmas break and we have started a new topic of “Performing Arts”.

In Big Comets we have started with our beloved “Nursery Rhymes” where the children have been exploring different songs through cooking, mark making, messy trays, outdoor activities and crafts. We have had lots of fun exploring the tuff trays with different materials and learning new words.

To help develop our technological skills, we have completed some maths games on a computer. Some of the craft activities that we have done related to “Nursery Rhymes” by sticking “Humpty Dumpty” together again with real plasters, looking after “Miss Polly’s” dolls, making “Old MacDonalds” farm animals out of toilet rolls, making “Baa baa white sheep” out of white card and counting cotton balls and we have also made real “5 Current Buns” to take home and share with our family.

During week commencing 10th February we celebrated “Valentine’s Day” by exploring numbers in love jars, potion making and lots of love stories. Big Comets have made heart biscuits and were responsible to measure, add and mix ingredients to achieve a yummy result. We then shared them with our loved ones. The children made cards and we invited the parents to take part in our Valentines board by writing down “I love my child because…”. It was amazing to see all the different reasons to love our little ones. A big thank you to all the parents that took part.

Included in our “Performing Arts” topic, and because the children are very into singing and performing, we have explored a sub topic, “Theatre”. The children have been busy making theatre tickets, popcorn, performing on stage and even driving to a drive thru movie. They loved making cars out of card boxes and sharing the car with peers to watch Peter Rabbit.
Another amazing activity was our Jack and the Beanstalk, where Big Comets have planted beans, decorated a castle and even a giant!! We will observe the beans growth and register how tall it will get.
At the moment Big Comets are now exploring “Design” and so far we have been designing our own Channel Shoes, designing our snack and “stitching” clothes.

On the 25th of February, we have celebrated another very popular date, Pancake Day! All the children in the setting have decorated their own pancake made by our amazing chef, Tracey, and have then enjoyed it for snack with a nice cup of milk/water.

“Performing Arts” is such a huge topic and we are so pleased to be covering lots of the children interests. Having this in mind, we will carry on through March too, alongside with a few more celebrations! World Book Day, Science Week and Mother’s Day! We can’t wait for what’s coming in March!

As usual, this months we would love to say a huge well done to Emily and Frankie for being the stars of the month and a big big well done to Jessica, Mason, Maisie B., Ali, Frankie, Aidan, Bobby, Eva, Evelyn, Edward, Matilda and Xavier for getting their 10th Stamp and being rewarded for being amazing in lots of different ways!
