|Rockets - 3 - 5 years
Our Rockets children are between 3-5 years old. By now the children are becoming really independant and thrive when we give them responsibility, with this in mind nursery staff plan activties that enable children to show independance and take on positions of responsibility within their daily routine. This gives the chidren a sense of pride and knowing they have been trusted to fulfil the role is a big boost to their self esteem. It also gives the adults a chance to see them organise and carry out tasks and select appropriate ways of problem solving.
The room is led by a qualified teacher who ensures all the activities are personalised for your child. She works with a team of four staff introducing childrento writing and the basics of reading, numeracy and understanding the world we live in.
We also have a qualified teacher who is a literacy specialist who comes in weekly to work with the children developing their skills and confidence with letters and numbers and if the parents desire a learning task to be completed at home.
The children have a great time in the Rockets, their social skills really improve and they make excellent friendships some of which they will keep as they make the transition to local schools. Like other rooms the Rockets have their own outside play area and log cabin which means they can spend lots of time learning outside.
The Rockets children have a beautiful kitchen garden where they grow their own vegetables and fruit to eat at snack time. We are fortunate to have Rachel our gardener who shares her passion for growing things with the children in the most fantastic way! They grow an amazing variety of foods and Rachel makes its such fun! We count potatoes and sort them into big and small, we grow sunflowers and measure how tall they grow, we pull up carrots and are surprised to see they don't come wrapped in plastic bags! We get our hands dirty and really start to learn what plants need to grow, its all great fun.
We are also fortunate to have Anna - our Zumba teacher visit us weekly in term time. Anna varies her days so more children get the opportunity to work with her. Anna takes the monthly topic the Rockets are working with and adds her 'Zumba Flavour' to it so the children continue to learn through exercise, drama, music and movement. Anna is full of energy and this really rubs off on the children when she is with them.
We also get the opportunity to do lots of activities off site - we have a nursery mini-bus so we are able to transport groups of children to participate in Skiing, Swimming, Tennis and Gymnastics and trampolining every week in term time.
Come and have a look, we would love to welcome you to Little Stars - you can see for yourself how much fun we have.
