Rockets
36 – 60 Months
Little Stars Nursery, Penn Hill
Rockets 36 – 60 months
Our pre-school, the ‘Rockets’ are split into two groups – ‘Little Rockets’ are the children who have newly turned three and the ‘Big Rockets’ who are starting their journey to ‘big school’
In Little Rockets, the children have newly turned three and are usually newly funded, and transition into Big Rockets in the September, one year before they are due to start school. During this final year at Little Stars, the Big Rockets work slowly towards all things ‘school readiness’, independence and resilience.
Activities
The children have such a fun time in Rockets, improving social skills and building friendships, which can carry on into their school years.
The children are encouraged to find out about sounds and letters. They also spend time learning about numbers and applying them in practical situations. There are role play opportunities, dancing, singing and creative times where they can get super crafty!
Facilities
In both Rockets groups, the children are starting to become increasingly independent. Our Rockets area is situated in the front of the nursery, taking up three rooms and opening out into the garden area.
We enable the children to select and explore activities which are of interest to them and choose whether they want to play inside or out. The gardens have artificial grass and large umbrellas that enable outside play whether its rain or shine, leading directly off their rooms. The rooms are filled with natural light through the floor to ceiling glass doors, which slide open, providing seamless transition from inside to outside, all on one level.

FUNDING
All children are entitled to 15 hours per week of funded childcare the term after they turn 3 years old. This is called ‘Universal’ funding.

Term Dates
Little Stars Day Nursery is open Monday to Friday, 51 weeks of the year, closing on Public holidays and for one week between Christmas and New Year.

Learning Journals
The online software, “Learning Journals” are a great way to track children’s development and progress throughout the nursery.
“Children arrive keen to start their day and eager to learn. They are highly motivated and happy at this welcoming nursery. Children show that they feel safe. They develop exceptionally close bonds with the kind and caring staff.”
